Where to Eat & Drink in County Wicklow
From organic fine dining to a perfect pint by the sea.

Wicklow's food scene punches well above its weight. The county's fertile land and coastline produce exceptional raw ingredients — Kilmore Quay crab, Dublin Bay prawns, wild game from the mountains, organic produce from the river valleys. Add a pub culture as strong as anywhere in Ireland, and you'll eat and drink very well whether you're in Bray after 18 holes at Greystones or in Macreddin Village after a round at BrookLodge.

Organic Fine Dining

The Strawberry Tree

Ireland's first certified organic restaurant, located at BrookLodge Hotel in Macreddin Village, is one of the most distinctive dining experiences in the country — and a genuine reason to make the drive to south Wicklow. Chef Evan Doyle and his team follow a strict organic and wild-food philosophy: the menu is driven by foraged ingredients, wild game and organic produce from the surrounding farmland, with nothing on the plate that couldn't be traced to a specific source.

The result is cooking that is both deeply rooted in place and genuinely surprising. A tasting menu here is a special occasion. Advance booking is essential — this is not a walk-in restaurant. Adjacent to Macreddin Golf Club, making it the obvious choice for anyone playing a round at BrookLodge.

Practical Tips for Eating Out in Wicklow

  • Book ahead for fine dining: The Strawberry Tree in particular requires advance reservation — sometimes weeks ahead in summer. Chakra by Jaipur and The Hungry Monk are also worth booking for weekend evenings.
  • Pub food hours: Most Wicklow pubs serve food from 12:30pm to approximately 9pm. Kitchens often close earlier on weekday evenings in quieter periods — call ahead if you're arriving after 8pm.
  • Clubhouse food: Many Wicklow golf clubs serve bar food in the clubhouse throughout the day. Don't overlook this — Druids Glen and Woodenbridge in particular have good clubhouse food options.
  • Check Google before you go: Opening hours and menus can change, particularly for smaller restaurants and pubs. A quick Google check before you leave the golf course will save disappointment.
  • Seafood on the east coast: The coastal courses — Greystones, Bray, Wicklow, Blainroe, Arklow — are near excellent seafood. Ask locals where they eat rather than relying solely on guides.
