Golf + Stay in County Wicklow
Two rounds or three. One night or four. The Garden of Ireland has a package for every golfer.

County Wicklow is one of Ireland's finest golf break destinations — and not just because of the courses. A 5-star resort with 36 holes on-site, lakeside golf in the shadow of the Wicklow Mountains, boutique country house stays beside river valley parkland, and some of Ireland's best organic restaurants within driving distance of the first tee. Here's how to build the perfect Wicklow golf break.

Resort Golf Breaks

Self-contained resorts where the hotel and the golf course are on the same site — the easiest and most luxurious way to do a Wicklow golf break.

5-Star Resort

Druids Glen Hotel & Golf Resort

The flagship Wicklow golf resort, and one of the finest golf hotels in Ireland. Druids Glen offers 5-star accommodation and two championship golf courses — Druids Glen (four-time Irish Open host, designed by Pat Ruddy) and Druids Heath (heathland, also Ruddy) — both on-site. You can roll out of bed and be on the first tee in ten minutes.

The resort includes a full spa, outdoor and indoor pools, the Rathmore Restaurant with views of the 13th green, and multiple bars and dining options. Golf packages — typically B&B plus one or two rounds at either or both courses — are available direct from the resort and represent significantly better value than booking accommodation and tee times separately.

For a premium golf break in Wicklow, this is the benchmark. Two nights, two rounds (one on each course), spa access and a good dinner at the Rathmore is a weekend that is hard to improve on.

  • Courses on-site: Druids Glen (par 71) & Druids Heath (par 71)
  • Best for: Premium resort experience; couples; golf groups
  • Value tip: Monday–Thursday packages are significantly cheaper than weekend rates
  • Location: Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow (45 min from Dublin)

Lakeside Resort

Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort

Tulfarris is one of Wicklow's most scenically spectacular golf resorts — situated on the shores of Poulaphouca Reservoir (the Blessington Lakes) in the western foothills, with views across the water to the Wicklow Mountains on every clear day. The resort includes a 4-star hotel in a period house, a par-72 championship parkland course that runs through mature woodland and along the lakeshore, and all the amenities of a full resort.

The course at Tulfarris is underrated nationally — a long, handsome parkland test with water in play on several holes and a consistent high standard of conditioning. It's less famous than Druids Glen but a very fine round of golf, and on a clear autumn day with the lake beside you, one of the most beautiful settings in Irish golf.

  • Course on-site: Tulfarris Golf Club (par 72, parkland, lakeside)
  • Best for: Scenic breaks; couples; west Wicklow exploration
  • Also near: Blessington Lakes GC, Baltinglass GC, Rathsallagh GC (all within 30 min)
  • Location: Blessington, Co. Wicklow

Boutique Country House

BrookLodge Hotel & Macreddin Golf Club

In the quiet valley of Macreddin Village in south Wicklow, BrookLodge is something genuinely different from the resort hotels: a boutique country house with an exceptional restaurant (The Strawberry Tree — Ireland's first certified organic restaurant), a cosy country pub (Actons), a spa, and Macreddin Golf Club on-site. The 9-hole golf course is modest by championship standards but beautifully maintained and set in lovely countryside.

The BrookLodge experience is about more than golf — it's about a particular kind of Irish country retreat, with outstanding food and drink at its centre. Guests who come primarily for The Strawberry Tree and treat the golf as a pleasant addition get as much from it as dedicated golfers. Worth building into any south Wicklow itinerary.

  • Course on-site: Macreddin Golf Club (9-hole parkland)
  • Best for: Couples; food-led breaks; south Wicklow exploration
  • Also near: Woodenbridge GC (20 min), Coollattin GC (20 min)
  • Location: Macreddin Village, Co. Wicklow (approx. 90 min from Dublin)

Country House Golf Breaks

Smaller, more intimate properties adjacent to or very close to excellent golf courses. Often the best value in Wicklow, and frequently the most characterful stays.

Country Club

Rathsallagh Country Club

Set in a converted Queen Anne farmhouse in Dunlavin, west Wicklow, Rathsallagh House is one of Ireland's most beloved country house hotels — warm, eccentric in the best way, with log fires, four-poster beds and the kind of comfortable informality that large resorts struggle to replicate. The Rathsallagh Golf Club course (par 72 parkland, designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr) is immediately adjacent — guests can walk from the house to the first tee.

Afternoon tea at Rathsallagh is something of an institution. The dining room serves classical Irish country house cooking with good local ingredients. An excellent choice for golfers who want quality accommodation and good golf without the resort experience.

  • Course adjacent: Rathsallagh GC (par 72, parkland)
  • Best for: Couples; golfers who prefer country house to resort
  • Location: Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow

Victorian Country House

Tinakilly Country House

A Victorian Italianate house near Rathnew, between Wicklow Town and the N11, Tinakilly Country House is one of Wicklow's most characterful hotels — ornate Victorian architecture, gardens running down to the coastline, and a central location that puts it within easy reach of both north and south Wicklow golf. Wicklow GC is five minutes away; Druids Glen and Blainroe are both within 20 minutes.

Tinakilly is not a resort — there's no on-site golf — but as a base for exploring Wicklow's courses, its central position is hard to beat. The restaurant is good and the house itself is worth a visit even if you're not staying.

  • Best for: Central Wicklow base; couples; those wanting a characterful hotel
  • Nearest golf: Wicklow GC (5 min), Blainroe (10 min), Druids Glen (20 min)
  • Location: Rathnew, Co. Wicklow

Hotel & Golf

Woodenbridge Hotel

One of Ireland's oldest hotels, situated in the Vale of Avoca immediately adjacent to Woodenbridge Golf Club. The Woodenbridge Hotel is a solid, comfortable base for south Wicklow golf — unpretentious, good value, with Goldmines Bistro serving food daily and the course visible from many of the bedrooms. For golfers whose priority is Woodenbridge GC, it's the obvious and easiest choice.

  • Course adjacent: Woodenbridge GC (par 71, parkland)
  • Best for: Value breaks; south Wicklow golf; groups
  • Also near: Arklow GC (20 min), Coollattin GC (20 min), Macreddin GC (30 min)
  • Location: Vale of Avoca, Co. Wicklow

Practical Tips for Booking Your Wicklow Golf Break

  • Book direct with the resort for packages: Golf + accommodation packages bundled together are almost always better value than booking hotel and tee times separately. Call the resort directly — they often have deals not listed on booking aggregators.
  • Monday to Thursday for best value: Weekend rates at Druids Glen and Tulfarris can be 30–40% higher than midweek. If you're flexible, a Mon–Thu golf break offers the same courses at significantly lower cost.
  • Most packages include B&B: Standard golf break packages across Wicklow resorts typically include bed & breakfast plus one or two rounds per day. Confirm what's included before booking — some packages include a dinner allowance, some do not.
  • Book tee times 2–3 weeks ahead for summer weekends: Druids Glen and Powerscourt in particular fill quickly in May–August. Don't assume availability — book as soon as your dates are confirmed.
  • Groups get better deals: Most Wicklow courses offer discounted rates for groups of 8 or more. Contact the pro shop directly for group booking terms.
  • Check our weather forecast: Live 5-day Wicklow weather to help you plan around the best conditions.
