Live 5-day forecast for County Wicklow — updated daily from Open-Meteo. Includes a golf conditions rating so you know at a glance whether to book that tee time.
Forecast centred on Wicklow Town (52.98°N, 6.04°W) — representative of the east coast courses. Mountain courses (Tulfarris, Macreddin, Roundwood) will be 2–3°C cooler with higher wind exposure.
| Rating | Sky | Wind | Rain probability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Excellent | Clear or mainly clear | Under 20 kph | Under 20% |
| Good | Partly cloudy | Under 30 kph | Under 40% |
| Playable | Overcast or light drizzle | Under 45 kph | Under 60% |
| Poor | Rain, fog or heavy cloud | 45 kph+ | 60%+ |
This is not optional in Ireland. Even a forecast of "mostly dry" can produce a Wicklow shower — short, sharp and often localised to the mountain area. A waterproof jacket and trousers folded in your bag add minimal weight and can save a round. The best golfers in Ireland carry waterproofs in July as readily as in January.
The east coast courses — Greystones, Bray, Wicklow, Blainroe, Arklow — tend to be drier and warmer than the mountain interior. Tulfarris, Macreddin and Roundwood sit at higher elevation and receive more rainfall. On an uncertain day, a coastal course is the safer bet. The mountain valley courses can be spectacular on a clear day, but genuinely difficult in persistent rain.
Arklow Golf Links and the soon-to-open Brittas Bay Club are exposed to the prevailing south-westerly wind off the Irish Sea. A calm morning can become breezy by early afternoon. Check the wind forecast — not just the rain — before booking a coastal links round. Wind above 35–40 kph significantly changes the character (and difficulty) of any links course.
In June, Wicklow has light until 10pm or later — allowing evening rounds after a full day of sightseeing. In January, darkness falls by 4pm, which limits you to a morning start. Plan your tee time around available daylight, and always allow 4 hours minimum for a full 18-hole round on a busy course.
Wicklow's most underrated season for golf. Course conditions improve rapidly through April and May. Days lengthen quickly — light until 9:30pm by late May. Average temperatures 10–16°C on the coast. March can still be raw; May is often near-ideal. Best month: May.
Longest days, warmest temperatures (average 17–19°C), peak green fees and highest demand. Book well in advance for top courses. Rain is always possible. June is the best summer month — long days, good odds of settled weather. Best month: June.
Excellent conditions, autumn colours in the parkland valleys, green fees falling to mid-season rates, fewer crowds. September has the best weather reliability of any autumn month. October offers outstanding value and striking scenery. Best months: September and October.
Short days, soft ground, risk of frost closure on some courses — but green fees at their lowest. Stick to sheltered parkland on calm days. Mountain courses may be restricted. Book a morning tee time to maximise daylight. Best on: calm, clear days in November or February.
